39 Year Old Woods Tees Up Two-wheeler Sponsorship
The world’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, Hero MotorCorp based in India, announced a global sponsorship agreement on Tuesday with golfer Tiger Woods. The motorcycle and scooter maker has little visibility in the USA, but the company plans to use Woods in its expansion outside its home market in India.
This comes two days ahead of Tiger’s return to competitive golf after four months off. Woods, who turns 39 this month, will tee it up Thursday at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club in the tournament he annually hosts, which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Last time out Woods failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship in August in his fourth tournament back after back surgery. The four events included two missed cuts and a withdrawal, capping a disappointing year where Woods finished 201st on the money list with $108,275 and saw his world ranking plummet to No. 24 after starting 2014 ranked first.
He as also not picked for a captain’s spot in the 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Woods ranked sixth in June in Forbes’ annual look at the world’s highest-paid athletes with earnings of $61.2 million. His Nike sponsorship remains one of the biggest in sports with the $28.8 billion-in-sales sportswear giant building a $789 million golf division on the back of Woods.
We look forward to seeing him at The Open in St Andrews, the home of golf, from 13th to 19th July 2015. Click here for package details.
