You will be driven by an experienced and fully qualified driver. The driver will meet you at the airport and immediately escort you to your hotel for a rest or to the first golf course if that is the planned itinerary. He will then accompany you throughout your trip, ensuring that you arrive at the golf course in good time, answering any questions you may have thereby allowing you to sit back and relax and at the same time look forward to your game.
Our self-drive programs offer a range of vehicles each with appropriate space for golf clubs and luggage. An AGS Golf representative will 'meet and greet' you at the airport with detailed directions, sightseeing information and we 24 hour telephone support. A popular choice for 4 golfers is an Automatic People Carrier, Mercedes Vito or Similar. Fitted with CD/ Radio, 7 seats, luggage for 4 and ABS Brakes.
Traveling by helicopter adds another interesting and exciting dimension to your golf tour. This particularly applies to Ireland where the road system limits the number of areas that can be visited on a typical 7 or 8 day trip. Traveling by helicopter is a luxury that turns an unlikely journey into a reasonable choice leaving more time to enjoy the golf and local entertainment. The helicopter can be used every day or for just part of your tour opening up remote areas such as the coast of Donegal with its fabulous courses or combing a visit to Dublin with day trips to world ranked courses such as Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland or Ballybunion on the South West Coast.
Golfers around the world like to play The Old Course at St Andrews which has been the game’s spiritual home for over 300 years.
Legend has it that the game of golf has been played out on the links since the beginning of the 12th Century, when shepherds clipped small stones into rabbit burrows with crude and very basic clubs.
The game of golf was made illegal in 1457 by King James II for the simple reason that it was distracting men from their main discipline which in those days was archery practice.
In 1552, the town’s right to play golf on the links was officially established.
Two hundred years later the Society of St Andrews Golfers decided to have 18 holes instead of 22, creating the current worldwide format.
Since then The Royal and Ancient G.C. has been involved in developing the game and St Andrews became known as the ‘Home of Golf’. AGS specialise in St Andrews Golf Packages
