Italy is actually a fantastic destination for golf, though it’s not always the first place people think of compared to Scotland, Ireland, or Spain. The country offers a wide variety of courses, many of them surrounded by incredible scenery, history, and wine regions. A great location for golfers and non golfers with some of the best sightseeing and cultural tours in the world. Let AGS Golf Vacations plan your Italy Golf and Sightseeing trip of a lifetime
Best Time of Year to travel for your Italy Golf Vacation
Best months: Spring (April-June) and Fall (September-October) — more temperate, fewer crowds.
Summer can be hot especially in southern Italy; some courses might be busy or maintenance heavy.
Winter: some courses in north may close; southern / coastal courses tend to stay more open.
Where to Fly / Entry Points
Major hubs: Rome (Fiumicino), Milan (Malpensa, Linate), Venice.
If going to islands: flights to Palermo or Catania (Sicily), to Olbia or Cagliari (Sardinia).
Accommodation
Mix of golf resorts, boutique hotels, villas, maybe agriturismo (especially in Tuscany / Umbria) if you want something rustic.
If near major sightseeing spots, lodging will be more expensive. Factor in driving time to/from courses.
Travel Documents, Health, Insurance
Valid passport, check visa requirements depending on your nationality. EU citizens have different rules, non-EU need to check.
Travel insurance covering golf (clubs, injury), especially if doing more remote courses or if combining with outdoor adventures.
Transportation Within Country
Car rental gives maximum flexibility (especially in regions with many courses spread out). Or take one of our Escorted Golf Packages
Trains / domestic flights can help to move between major cities.
Lombardy & Lake Como / Lake Garda
Courses with Alpine backdrops and lakeside views. Examples: Golf Club Villa d’Este (historic, top-rated) and Arzaga Golf Club.
Piedmont (near Turin & Barolo wine country)
Known for rolling hills and vineyards. Royal Park I Roveri and Circolo Golf Torino have hosted Italian Opens.
Rome & Lazio
Great mix of historic sightseeing and golf. Marco Simone Golf & Country Club (hosted the 2023 Ryder Cup) is just outside Rome.
Tuscany
Stunning landscapes, wine estates, and classic Italian countryside. Courses like Golf Club Castelfalfi and Poggio dei Medici combine golf with food & wine experiences.
Veneto (near Venice & Verona)
Courses like Golf Club Verona or Circolo Golf Venezia on the Lido offer a mix of culture and golf.
Sicily
Coastal golf with Mediterranean views. Verdura Resort in Sicily (Kyle Phillips design) is world-class.
