Sightseeing Suggestion: Vilamoura

Vilamoura marina is the main centre of activity with a huge range of restaurants, bars and shops (including many designer shops). During the day, although it can get quite busy, it's really a very peaceful area to stroll around. It gets more lively at night, with everyone coming to eat and try out some of the bars, but is still a very relaxed resort. Boasting a 1,000-berth marina, Vilamoura attracts the wealthy, yachtsmen, golfers, celebrities and in fact, anyone who just fancies enjoying a rather nice place in the sun! Vilamoura has something for everyone to enjoy - there are boat trips (for those of us who don’t own a boat!), specially designed trails for walking and cycling and restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. Vilamoura is not only all about sun, sea and sand. More to its breath-taking beaches, there also lay an extensive range of tourism gems that never fail to capture every traveller’s heart.

DAY 2
Play Oceanica Old G.C

Oceanica Old G.C. (6924 yards, Par 73) A stunning championship layout that is a must play, and has become the best out of all the four courses in Vilamoura a real favourite amongst the many golfers the visit the area. The course is kept in beautiful condition and the combination of umbrella pines and rolling terrain ensures a really enjoyable round, which will test all aspects of your game.

Sightseeing Suggestion: Faro

The Algarve’s capital has a more distinctly Portuguese feel than most resort towns. Many visitors only pass through this underrated city, which is a pity, as it makes for an enjoyable stopover. It has an attractive marina, well-maintained parks and plazas, and a historic old town full of pedestrian lanes and outdoor cafes. Marvellously preserved medieval quarters harbour curious museums, churches and a bone chapel. The lagoons of the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa and nearby beaches, including the islands of Ilha de Faro to the southwest and Ilha da Barreta (aka Ilha Deserta) to the south, add to Faro’s allure.

DAY 3
Play Quinta de Lago South

The jewel in the Quinta do Lago crown, the South Course has played host to the Portuguese Open no less than eight times. Designed in 1974 by William Mitchell, who raised the bar by introducing American-standard greens, tees and bunkers to the Algarve, it soon gained a reputation as one of the foremost courses in Europe and remains to this day one of the flagship European Tour Courses. The favourite course of many European tour players, it is a 6,500 metre par 72 set amongst umbrella pines, lakes and wild flowers, overlooking the spectacular scenery of the Ria Formosa National Park.

DAY 4
Play Victoria G.C

Victoria G.C. (7273 yards, Par 72) At the time of creation, the Victoria Golf Course was hailed as the most ambitious golf project Portugal had ever witnessed. Designed by true golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, there is absolutely no doubt that it has lived up to that lofty billing. It has served as the host venue to the Portugal Masters on every occasion since 2007, while the World Cup Championship was staged there in 2005. The Par-72 Championship layout incorporates and has ensured the preservation of natural wetlands on-site, as well as the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. A significant proportion of Victoria’s acreage is occupied by lakes, forming hazards to be avoided but which also have a strategic purpose in providing reservoirs for irrigation. The Victoria course quickly became one of the best golf courses in Portugal, with a layout that presents a challenge even for the most seasoned players.

Sightseeing Suggestion: Traditional Portuguese Evening

Dinner at a portuguese restaurant in a typical Algarve village with traditional food, folks dances and music

DAY 5
Day at leisure

Sightseeing Suggestion: Lagos

Lagos is a fantastic town in the western Algarve that can certainly be enjoyed by all age groups. It is full of historical interest with it's origins dating as far back as 2000 years BC when it was known as Lacobriga. The older part of Lagos is still circled by the city walls that were constructed during the 16th century. Walk along the cobbled street at the back of the square just past Santa Maria church and you will come to the famous Lagos 'golden church' of St. Anthony which was rebuilt in 1769 - entrance to this church is through the museum at the side and both the museum and the church are well worth visiting. Lagos has some stunning views, it has to be said! From the Ponte da Piedade (in front of the lighthouse) you get a fantastic view of the sweeping sands of Lagos bay with the Monchique hills as a backdrop, and you can see all the way to Sagres to the west and past Albufeira to the east.

DAY 6
Play San Lorenzo G.C

San Lorenzo G.C in the Algarve, designed by Joseph Lee, opened in 1988. Taking full advantage of the wonderful undulating pine woodland topography of the Quinta do Lago estate, the 18 holes and beautiful Bermuda grass fairways of the San Lorenzo Golf Course lie in the unspoilt south east corner of Quinta do Lago, bordering the Ria Formosa nature Reserve and Estuary, providing perfect playing conditions. 6822 yards 18 holes par 72.

DAY 7
Travel to Cascais.

Play Oitavos G.C

Oitavos G.C. (6979 yards, Par 71) One of the newest courses in the area and is simply a real treasure. OITAVOS is maintained to the highest of standards all year round and can boast the naturally beautiful location imaginable. The course runs through woodland and sand dunes and offers wonderful views of the Atlantic. All the holes flow well and have testing hazards and excellent greens that are always firm and fast and full of slopes and borrows.

Stay 3 nights at Hotel Cascais Miragem
