Course Design & Features

Kooyonga's layout is characterized by its sandy soil and moderate undulations, offering a classic-style course that challenges golfers to play their best shots. The course features a consistent approach to bunkering and hazard placement, with recent enhancements by architects Neil Crafter and Paul Mogford focusing on fairway widenings, selective tree and shrub removal, and the addition of fairway bunkers on several holes.

Signature Holes

  • 14th Hole (Par 3, 145 meters): Considered the signature hole, this par 3 presents players with an elevated green guarded by deep bunkers. The tee box is encapsulated by trees, making club selection challenging.
  • 16th Hole (Par 5): The club is seeking planning approval to lengthen this hole by 16 meters to 520 meters, aiming to increase its difficulty and maintain its premier status.

Championships Hosted

Kooyonga has a storied history of hosting major golf tournaments, including:

  • Five Australian Opens
  • Nine South Australian Opens
  • Eight National Amateur Championships

The course has also been a venue for numerous international and interstate matches and championships.

Club History

The club traces its origins to the founding of the Adelaide Golf Club in 1870. The current Kooyonga Golf Club was established in 1923 and has since become one of Australia's premier golf courses.

Kooyonga Golf Club stands as a testament to Australia's rich golfing heritage. With its challenging layout, storied history, and commitment to excellence, it remains a premier destination for golfers seeking both tradition and challenge.
