Ryder Cup Selection nears the finish line
USA news – the United States captain, Tom Watson, is having to make some difficult decisions as he ponders the three wild cards for the Ryder Cup team. In fact, after the Barclays this last weekend of the top players jostling for a place, two missed the cut, and the other three were less than inspiring. The nine automatic places are shown below.
European news – with just the Italian Open to count eight of the nine qualifiers are confirmed. At ninth spot Graham McDowell can still be overhauled by Stephen Gallacher where a top two finish at the Italian will leapfrog him into the Ryder Cup team. If this happens then Captain Paul McGinley will then have an easy pick for one of the wild cards with McDowell having an impressive season. Beyond that McGinley’s wildcard selection seems as difficult as Watson’s!
