Best Golf Courses in Scotland

Scotland is the home of golf and it has beautiful courses all over the country. The first recorded game of golf was in the early 15th century and the modern version of the game was developed in Scotland.

With so many fans of the game, it stands to reason that the country has some of the oldest, best and most competitive courses in the world.

If you want to visit, here are our pro’s favourite courses in Scotland that are a must-visit.

1. Royal Dornoch, located in the Highlands of Scotland, is probably the most well-known course in the country. The Royal Dornoch Club was established in early 1877, and the course was then only 9 holes long. However, by the late 1901s, the course had expanded to create the current competition-class course frequented by professionals.
2. Turnberry Ailsa, located on the West Coast, was named after the Marquess of Ailsa who owned the land and developed the course. The club is home to two stunning competition level courses and it has stunning views all over the area.
3. St Andrews Old Course on the East Coast can easily be considered ‘The Home of Golf.’ At present, the club has five courses but the eponymously named OLD COURSE is technically the oldest golf course in the world. The legendary Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognized by almost all international players. However, the course is open to all, making it a very popular course in the city.
4. Royal Aberdeen, located on the East Coast, near Grampian was established in 1780. The title ‘Royal’ was awarded by Edward VII and the club has managed to impress all visitors over the years. In recent years, the club has hosted the 2011 Walker Cup and the course has attracted extensive praise and interest from international players.
5. North Berwick is another popular course located on the East Coast near East Lothian. The historic West Links Course has seen golf players since the 17th particularly famous for the stunning views over North Berwick Village, the East Neuk of Fife, the Firth of Forth and the islands of Bass Rock, Lamb and Fidra.
