Northern Ireland: Golf and Sightseeing

Northern Ireland has magnificent sand dunes on its North and South coasts, each with a world-ranked links course. The tour starts on the Causeway Coast in the north where you play three excellent links courses. There is plenty to see including ‘The Giants Causeway’ a world heritage site and Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest in the world. You drive south to the ‘Fermanagh Lakelands’, stay at a 5-star luxury resort and play the stunning Loch Erne lakeside course.

Nearby you can visit the ‘Marble Arch Caves’ near Enniskillen. Your final base is the vibrant city of Belfast playing two Royal courses, the oldest in Ireland and the highest-ranked in the UK and Ireland. There is plenty of entertainment, great restaurants and places to visit including ‘the Titanic quarter’. Northern Ireland is where much of the popular ‘Game of Thrones’ series has been shot. There are several interesting tours for fans of this programme but you may need to add an extra day to your tour to enjoy this experience.

Your Golf Tour Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive at Belfast Airport, met by AGS Representative, collect auto or meet your private driver/guide, head to Bushmills Inn your hotel on the Causeway Coast for 4 nights.

Day 2. Play Portstewart Strand, a challenging course set amongst imposing sand dunes. It is recognised for its very strong opening 9 holes. 7004 yards, Par71.

Day 3. Play Castlerock Mussenden, a tough course with no easy holes and brutal in a strong wind. 6805 yards, Par 73.

Day 4. Play Royal Portrush Dunluce, a masterpiece by the leading golf architect Harry Colt. It is World ranked and selected to host the 2019 British Open. 7317 yards, Par 72. Royal Portrush Valley is another stunning Colt course should anyone chose an option for 36 holes.

Day 5. Drive to the 5* Loch Erne Resort for one night and play the championship Faldo Course. It has links-like fairways, true greens and a spectacular Fermanagh Lakelands setting. There are views from every vantage point and the waters of the Lough come into play on 11 of the 18 holes. 7,167 yards, Par 72.

Day 6. Drive to the 4* Hilton hotel at Belfast for 2 nights. Play Royal Belfast, it was founded in 1881, the first club in Ireland The current course is another by Harry Colt, a true test of golfing skill in a lovely setting.

Day 7. Drive to Newcastle, play Royal County Down, often ranked #1 in The British Isles and very high in world rankings. This beautiful course is as stern a test as any Open Championship venue. 7186 yards, Par 71.

Day 8. Depart from Belfast Airport.

The Bushmills Inn is one of Ireland’s luxury hotels. It is in an enviable location close to Royal Portrush Golf Club, Old Bushmills Distillery and the Giant’s Causeway. The 3 AA Rosette Catalina Restaurant was the winner of the Hotel Restaurant of the year ‘food and wine awards’ 2017. Menus are by an acclaimed chef featuring the best of local produce. The Loughside Bar & Grill specialises in quality Irish Meats and Seafood from the grill. Enjoy drinks and light bites in the Blarney Bar. Each dining experience is served with views of the Fermanagh Lakelands.

The 4* Hilton has an idyllic central location on the banks of the Lagan River. It is only a two-minute walk to the city centre and a 10-minute drive to Belfast City Airport. You can in the river view and dine on Irish and British cuisine at the hotel’s Sonoma Restaurant offering local Irish dishes, light bites and classic wines.

Cables bar is the perfect place to enjoy a variety of lunch and dinner options, exciting cocktails or simply a Piacetto coffee with friends. Sightseeing

The Giants Causeway 

One of Ireland's outstanding sights of natural beauty. It is a strange natural phenomenon, a mass of 37,000 mainly hexagonal pillars of volcanic basalt. The pillars extend for about 3 miles along the coast. The top of the pillars form stepping stones from the bottom of the cliff until they disappear into the sea.

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

A famous rope bridge near Ballintoy in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The bridge links the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede. It spans 20 metres and is 30 metres above the rocks below. Northern Ireland's most popular tourist destination: this large stretch of staircase-shaped rocks is the result of cooled lava from volcanic eruptions that took place over 65 million years ago.

Old Bushmills Distillery 

They claim to be the world's oldest whiskey distillery based on a charter granted by King James 1st on 20th April 1608. Known worldwide for its blended whiskey's Black Bush and Bushmills Original they have more recently introduced Bushmills 16-year-old Single Malt. The distillery is situated just one mile from the spectacular Giants Causeway on the North Coast.

You can enjoy a guided tour which takes about one hour and a complimentary glass of the final product. Visitors are welcome from April to October. Monday to Saturday 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon to 5.30 p.m. with the last tour 4 p.m. each day. There is a small admission fee.

Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark 

Host to one of the finest show caves in Europe.  Visitors are guided through a fascinating natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers while stunningly beautiful cave formations glisten all around

Titanic Belfast 

A visitor attraction and a monument to Belfast's maritime heritage on the site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard in the city's Titanic Quarter where the RMS Titanic was built.

Mount Stewart House 

A magnificent stately home at Newtownards on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down. It has been restored by the National Trust, to the elegance and charm of the house when it was home of the 7th Marchioness Edith, Lady Londonderry and her family in the early 20th century.

Ulster American Folk Park at Omagh 

Learn about the story of the brave emigrants who made the journey across the Atlantic to America hundreds of years ago. You can wander through the thatched cottages and log cabins and meet costumed characters who will show you traditional crafts, tell you a few stories and maybe even share a bit of their good food.

You can board a full-scale emigrant ship to experience the conditions faced by many as they set sail for a new life in America. With 30 buildings and exhibits to explore the Ulster American Folk Park is a wonderfully unique experience.
