Northern Ireland: Golf and Fine Dining

Northern Ireland has some world-class courses in Royal County Down and Royal Portrush. The Republic has some highly ranked courses in the North West and also some of the best ‘hidden gems’ in Ireland. The Belfast area is the ‘hotspot’ for fine dining with two Michelin star restaurants, 3 AA Rosette’s at Galgorm Resort and the grandeur of the Great Room restaurant at the fabulous Merchant Hotel.

Northern Ireland Golf Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive at Belfast or Dublin airport. Drive to the west coast for two nights at the luxury Harvey’s Point Resort Hotel on the shores of Lough Eske. It is set in the most breathtaking mystic landscape, 10 minutes from Donegal Town. Dine at the hotel’s Lakeside Restaurant for fine personal service and a gastronomic experience that rivals any in the country.
Day 2 Play County Sligo, a great championship links course under the shadow of Benbulben. The course is scenic and challenging surrounded by mountain, ocean and countryside. Stop for fine dining at the Sandhouse hotel.
Day 3 Play Donegal, a challenging championship links course occupying the magnificent Murvagh peninsula in Donegal Bay. It is long, nearly 7300 yards from the back tees. Drive to Rathmullen House at Letterkenny for one night. Dine at the hotel’s 2AA Rosette restaurant. It has a strong reputation for exciting and original dishes.
Day 4 Play Ballyliffin Glashedy, a magnificent links course with panoramic views of the countryside, coastline and ocean. It is a severely punishing golf test that requires straight driving to narrow fairways whipped by north Atlantic winds. Drive to Bushmills Inn a boutique hotel on the Causeway Coast at Bushmills for one night. Dine in their award-winning restaurant.
Day 5 Play Royal Portrush, one of the natural wonders of the golfing world; confirmed with its high world ranking. Drive to the Galgorm Resort and Spa for 3 nights. Dine in Belfast’s grandest restaurant; enjoy the perfectly preserved original Victorian architecture at the Great Room restaurant of the Merchant Hotel. Savour the divine food conjured up in The Great Room Kitchens by Head Chef John Paul Leake.
Day 6 Play Royal County Down, one of the truly great golf courses in the British Isles and normally in the top 10 of world golf course rankings. The golf is extraordinary and the scenery adds a touch of majesty and well-being. Fine dining at Galgorm’s 3 AA Rosette River Room Restaurant
Day 7 Play Portstewart Strand Course a difficult but fair links. The fairways meander through towering dunes, fabulous natural links land with views at every turn of the blue Donegal hills and the rolling Atlantic.
