Golfing Hotspot – Kent

Kent is one of the oldest home counties of South East England well-known for its copious hop gardens and fruit trees. Famously known as “The Garden of England” because of its wealth of natural assets, Kent’s is a popular tourist and golfing destination attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Among the wealth of things Kent boasts, golfing is one of those things high up on the list. In Kent alone, there are over 100 golf courses; some old and some new. Of course, some of the best of these golf courses being Royal St. Georges, Royal Clinque Ports and Princes Golf Course, all of which have hosted the prestigious Open Championship.

Then there is Littlestone Golf Club, a classic links course on the Kent coast, which lies between Romney Marsh and the English Channel, which is also considered one of the finest courses in England.

Just 50miles west of Littlestone Golf Club is the remarkable London Golf Club, which is situated not too far from Ash Green. It offers two sensational courses and magnificent countryside views.

Kent also has many fine seaside courses, one of them being North Foreland Golf Club in Broadstairs. North Foreland is by far one of the most popular golf courses on the Kent coast with two exceptional golf courses and breathtaking sea and countryside views.

About 24 kilometres or so from North Foreland is the Canterbury Golf Club, which is one of the many delights that Canterbury city has to offer. The course is ideally situated a mile away from Canterbury city centre and is just a few miles away from the three greats: Royal Clinque, Princes and Royal St. Georges.

Of course, apart from golf clubs, Canterbury city is famously known for its rich history evident in many of its building including the famous cathedral and other historical structures like St. Martins church and St. Augustine’s Abbey.

Canterbury city is one place every visitor vacationing in Kent should explore. It is beautiful city with many ancient buildings, fantastic restaurants and cafes, lively bars and an electric nightlife. From Canterbury, you can also easily take a trip to Paris or London, as there are high-speed trains that run regularly between these cities.

Apart from being home to the famous Canterbury city, Kent County is a beautiful region constellated with hop gardens and studded with oast houses. It is well-known for its beer- making heritage; therefore expect to see many breweries including the oldest brewer in England called Shephard Neame Brewery. Many of the breweries offer guided tours as well as tastings of their English brews.

If you are not much of beer lover and prefer wine, then you are in for a treat as Kent is home to many fine vineyards that produce exquisite English wines. Chapel Down Winery, which is one of the popular vineyards in the county is famous for its sparkling rose, which is said to have been served at Prince William’s wedding. So why not book a winery tour during your visit and enjoy some of the finest English wines there is in the world.

Apart from its natural beauty, Kent is a place of historical significance. Of its many iconic buildings, the Canterbury Cathedral is one the most significant and oldest historical building in England. It is the country’s centre of Christianity and for decades has been home to the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England. The cathedral is also part of the World Heritage Site. Then there is the Rochester Cathedral, which is the second oldest cathedral in England.

There are numerous historical sites in Kent and there is an interesting story behind each one of them. But apart from churches and cathedrals, Kent boasts of many architectural delights including homes that housed lords and ladies, museums, ancient Clinque Ports, Tudor villages and a collection of ancient castles. Discover Hever Castle, Penhurst Place, the Oast House and many other interesting sites.

In case you are wondering what else Kent has to offer other than sight-seeing, well there are plenty of fun activities for people of all ages. Kent has a gorgeous coastline fringed with sandy beaches, secluded bays, Blue Flag coves and the world famous White Cliffs. You can choose to lie on the beach and catch some rays or do something more adventurous like kite-surfing, sailing or kayaking.
